Gundersen WW is a full-service custom shop that produces everything from fine furnishings to timberframe structures. We have an extensive background in producing high-quality components for a demanding clientele, and this standard characterizes each job we do.
With formal training or apprenticeship in fine furniture and design, timber-framing, lutherie, boat-building and architectural millwork, and fifteen years experience, we understand interior and exterior wood applications from a perspective of appropriate function, beauty and longevity. We utilize a blend of modern technology and time-tested technique to build in a manner that assures ultimate durability and therefore value and sustainability. Hand or machine-cut dovetails, true mortise and tenon joinery, and otherwise historically proven techniques characterize our work, while late-model European industrial machinery allows us to work quickly and efficiently. We are able to produce specialized millwork, such as radius moulding and complicated stair parts - nearly any millwork that may be required.
We use high-quality, solid wood and domestic plywood in our shop, much of which is sourced locally/regionally. We stock many species of Appalachian hardwoods and have ready sources of supply for any wood that may be required, including reclaimed and/or certified lumber, if desired. We use only quality fasteners, adhesives and hardware.
We have the experience of overseeing major aspects of large, high-end residences, and thereby understand the reality of job-site conditions, budget, and timing. This knowledge base assures an informed and responsive partnership that is essential in creating the best possible product and ultimate result. Our work is in homes featured in Architectural Digest, House and Garden, and LowCountry Home magazines.
We enjoy a challenge, but are happy to produce, simple, quality work for nearly any application. Though we don't seek to compete with the indifferent quality of commercially available products, you will find that when quality is taken into account, the value of what we produce is far greater than what can be obtained otherwise. Because we produce everything in-house, you are assured of the quality and accountability of what we make, and may often find we are close to the pricing of commercial millwork.
We regularly produce doors, stairs and stair components, free-standing and built-in furniture, and both structural and decorative timber-frames and frame elements. Should you be interested in a furniture-quality, face-frame, inset door/drawer cabinetry, or counter-tops we would be happy to talk about it.
Please contact us with questions or for an estimate. We can work with most CAD files.
